Bam! Margera, Broken Chairs, and Big Smiles in South Daytona

Bam! Margera, Broken Chairs, and Big Smiles in South Daytona

On November 17–18, 2023, I had the pleasure of participating in a truly memorable event at Arkham Asylum Comics, my buddy Marco’s shop in South Daytona. The special guest? None other than Bam! Margera.

Marco reached out a few weeks ahead of time and asked if I’d be willing to create an exclusive book for the event—and of course, I was all in. I tapped my friend Mike Ratliff to create a cover for my title The Adventures of Wyatt and Pouches, paying homage to that iconic photo of Bam sitting with the late Ryan Dunn in the infamous “Broken Chair” skit.

I also created a second cover myself, recreating the legendary Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater box art—but with Bam! in Hawk’s place. I wanted this event to be something special, so I went all in on the details.

To help bring the books (and Bam!’s art) to the masses, I called on a couple of my fellow Whatnot warriors: The Bludhaven Knight and Mutant City Comics. We rented a house nearby, streamed live from the event both days, and even did nightly streams from the residence. These guys work insanely hard, and I’m lucky to brush shoulders with such dedicated and talented people.

Before this, I’d never met Bam, so I had no idea what to expect—or if he’d even like the covers. But from the moment he arrived, Bam was all smiles. He took his time with each fan, signing books, sharing stories, and making everyone—especially the young ones—feel seen. Watching how patient and genuine he was with his youngest fans was really touching. It reminded me why I love doing events like this.

I split the exclusives with Arkham Asylum Comics as thanks for having us, and Bam graciously signed a bunch of copies, adding his classic Heartagram logo to about a quarter of them. The energy was high all weekend, and it felt that early 2000's vibe in the air.

Some of the amazing photos in this post were captured by the talented Brittany Fournier—huge thanks to her for documenting the experience so beautifully. You can view more moments from the event in this photo album.

Sometimes I still can’t believe this is real life. It’s easy to lose the work/life balance in the middle of nonstop hustle, but this was one weekend where I stopped to take it all in. I felt hyper aware of how lucky I am to be doing what I love with people I respect, admire, and call friends.

And of course, none of it would have happened without Marco’s call to action. Big thanks again to him and the crew at Arkham Asylum Comics for making it all possible.
